It is natural we should get more upset by deaths of people who made us happy. Even if well rewarded, it is sad they are gone.

I just wanted some perspective. Since Princess Diana the UK seems to have lost its stiff upper lip. Prince Philip can teach the country about getting on with things.

Sending journalists, cameramen, sound recordists out to cover stories costs £££. But showing old tv clips, celebrity talking heads etc makes for lots of cheap telly.

Apart from UK politicians and government departments trying to release things in the quiet on their websites, the Christmas and New Year period tends to be slow for news. Therefore every famous person that dies helps to fill up news space on the cheap.

This is true. I guess most of the 'serious' journalists are on holiday too.
