    Sigh

Back contracting today. 1st 'real' contract for over 5 years (ie. Didn't get it through a mate with a view to get promoted later).

Back into IT. Technically my first time in an IT department for 9 years(I always worked in the business with IT).

Turned up. Hiring manager was ill. Got there early. Had to wait in reception for over an hour & half before someone else was found.

    Laptop with no software.

No desk, had to camp in the kitchen.

5 day Service Requests to get the right software.

No documentation, or access to it. (read the WIKI and website)

Nobody to shadow (got one person for 30 minutes).

    Lunch on own, crap sandwich.

Did induction and shot off earlyish.

It's no good not being important. Sigh.

    Keep invoicing. Sigh.

Sounds like a typical day one to me. Easy money.

Arrived at 9:20 to be offered tea or coffee.

Induction started at 9:30 and went on to 12:30 with break for coffee half way through. Utterly irrelevant for me (I'm not site based) but you have to do it.

Got laptop by 1pm (suitably posh and light for my requirements) and had all software installed for me by 1:30..

Lunch was late but hey ho.

Spent rest of day talking to person I'm taking over this first project from alongside the support team I can call upon...

Left 4:30 as everyone had left collecting my fully authorised id card as I left.

Big boss is over tomorrow to do the rest of the formal introduction....

Fairly predictable first episode for your latest fantasy. i.e. Client doesn't meet your high expectations.

Maybe tomorrow, you could make up a more positive event, like you totally saved a failing project with just five minutes of your input, twenty minutes after you logged on. What time is Episode 2 going to be out ?

To be fair a lot of my clients are like that. So he must be like Scott Adams, who writes and draws Dilbert, and asking for realistic examples.

As long as he doesn't write an autobiography we are safe....
