    Iraq - The End game

So a "phased withdrawal", followed by a civil war, followed by a puppet Iranian government.

    Nice one, Dubya and Tone.
    Hard Brexit now!

Why do you think "sticking it out" will have any other outcome? The Vietnam war lasted about a decade with the same outcome...
Face it, it was a stupid thing to do.

You had almost 4 years to win it, anti-war goons like me did not exactly go there fight on the side of insurgents, we just said it will fail and it did fail - it took almost as much time to beat Nazi Germany, so don't whine that you did not have enough time.

The Coalition have not failed. Their game plan was to remove Saddam Hussein. That was done. We have also helped the Iraqis have free and democratic elections and given all the advice they should require to move on from here. The fact they have chosen to start indiscriminately slaughtering each other instead is no fault of the Coalition forces who have struggled manfully to address this barbarity. However, no point helping those that will not help themselves, time to rev up and fook off.

Let me just remind the countries who took part in the Coalition of the Willing:

                “Coalition of the Willing” Members
                2001 population
                (millions)
                1 Albania
                2 Armenia
                3 Australia
                4 Azerbaijan
                5 Bahrain
                6 Bulgaria
                7 Costa Rica
                8 Croatia
                9 Czech Republic
                10 Denmark
                11 Estonia
                12 Georgia
                13 Hungary
                14 Israel
                15 Italy
                16 Japan
                17 Jordan
                18 Kuwait
                19 Latvia
                20 Lithuania
                21 Macedonia
                22 Oman
                23 Philippines
                24 Poland
                25 Portugal
                26 Qatar
                27 Romania
                28 Saudia Arabia
                29 Slovakia
                30 Slovenia
                31 Spain
                32 Turkey
                33 United Arab Emirates
                34 United Kingdom

                ----------

I am sure 150k Iraquies kill, and 450k injuried in the last few years fully appreciate the fact that Saddam is not in power. No doubt mullahs of Iran would have gladly joined the above list if they knew what it would lead to: probably resurrected state of Persia.

What exactly are we supposed to be sticking it out for MM? Care to enlighten us why we're still there?

As far as I recall we didn't find any WOMD, I'm not hopefully of seeing democracy spread like wildfire in the region as promised, and I don't think we're any further forward in our war against terror (Quite the reverse).

In fact in every respect this invasion truly has been a disaster, with the only positive I can take from it - getting rid of Saddam - isntt looking quite so positive from the perspective of the 100,000 (Conservative estimate) Iraqis who've died, not too mention our boys as well, any more.

Actually, the Coalition of the Willing list in 2003 of nations which "are prepared to be publicly associated with the US action against Iraq" reads:

Afghanistan, Albania, Australia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Colombia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, El Salvador, Eritrea, Estonia, Ethiopia, Georgia, Hungary, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, the Netherlands, Nicaragua, the Philippines, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Turkey, United Kingdom and Uzbekistan.
