"A senior Italian official has warned that the UK and the European Union are heading into an “economic cold war” over Brexit that could wreak havoc on the west and weaken the continent.

Mario Giro, Italy’s deputy foreign minister, said that while many countries in the EU had said the UK’s vote to leave the EU represented a loss to the union, there were more hardliners in the EU against the UK than it appeared.

“When we are among the 27 [countries within the EU, not including the UK], the hardliners are more numerous than it appears. I cannot quote a country in particular at the moment. We will see it at the beginning of the negotiation,” Giro said in an interview with the Guardian."

With the largest debt second only to America the UK has nothing to lose. We may as well press the red button.

The amount of cash Brexit is going to cost you'd think we had a bottomless pocket.

Odds on the Italians changing sides after 2 years?

stek should be happy though, the Danes don't see a post-Brexit problem:

Can't wait for a video game of Brexit DOOM where you get to walk round and shoot Bremoaners every time they speculate about what *might* happen.

They are looking particularly silly now that HSBC have announced they will be moving 1,000 jobs from Paris to London when Brexit happens:

The restructuring will eventually eliminate one job in five around the world and around a sixth of jobs in Britain.
When the restructuring plan was announced, Chief Executive Officer Stuart Gulliver said most of the job losses in Britain would come from employees leaving on their own accord.HSBC has 47,000 U.K. workers at the end of December, according to its most recent annual report. More cuts are expected over the coming months as the bank continues to consolidate IT and back office operations, the sources said.

Can always just print some more. Countries in control of their own currency never run out. They just inflate the debt away.

Don't worry, it's only an Italian minister. Given that their governments change like the seasons, he'll be long gone by the time any serious negotiation takes place.

I like have inflating debt away is akin to inflating our problems away. If only!
