Feckless self-employed to pay more tax for boomers' social care

At least we can all agree that looking after the old folk is a worthy cause.

They are the only ones who will vote Tory in the next election, so to prevent the country from surviving and growing, they need to be kept alive for at least another 3 years.
…Maybe we ain’t that young anymore

Boomers are only in late 60s, early 70s, and in good health for their age compared to previous generations. Most people currently needing long term care are significantly older. Wait till the real boomers get that old.

Age alone is a bit of a generalisation. More successful elderly people will have to pay for their own care out of their assets. The ones who will need state care include many who have been a net burden on the state for most of their lives. Maybe we need less socialism and more encouragement of ability.

Off topic, but in 50 years time we will be paying for the idiotic "solution" to an ageing population of low skilled mass immigration when the recent "migrant boomers" get old and need social care.

        Spot on Xoggy.

Those that paid in will have to pay out for social care. Those who had cheap rent in a council house will get their care free. Also studies show more successful people enjoy better lifetime health.

I suspect the payout will be sooner than 50 years. Poor nutrition / lifestyle in childhood and beyond may limit your longevity and lifetime health. Deep fried mars bar anyone?

If you check the demographics you'll find there will be less retired people in 50 years, that's even with the "mass migration", unless people live in even longer.

Not something you're going to read in the Daily Mail though.

significantly less or just pedantic less? How?

Are you saying the old age problem is transitory?

Well there are about 20-30% less teenagers than there are 50-60 year olds.

The average age in this country is 40.

Countries with more young people e.g. Turkey the average is 30-31
