Petition against probate form fee increase

As many here will be aware, the Government has greatly increased the fees for probate forms, from the former flat rate of around £150, and for some estates this one piece of paper will now cost £20,000.

This is obviously just a deceitful way of indirectly evading their manifesto committment not to increase inheritance tax, and is already causing huge uncertainty and delays in processing wills.

At the following URL is a petition asking for this change to be reconsidered:

    https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/188175

Although the change may not affect some people reading this, and doubtless a few snarky replies here will express approval, there is an element of principle involved and IMHO any opportunity to challenge these ever-increasing taxes of all kinds should be welcomed and put to good use.

While the £20k figure is an extreme case, I agree. Especially from a party who is generally suppose to be anti-IHT. If you must increase death costs, have the balls to raise the taxes rather than hope nobody notices.

edit also your link is faulty: http://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/188175

They've turned one off low fee into Inheritance Tax #2, effective violation of manifesto for sure just like "Apprentice levy" which is payroll tax awfully similar to NICs

They start high and then reduce thresholds unless stopped
