    Interview Question: Backup Strategy

    Here's a good one,

    interview question, what should we implement as backup strategy for system x ?


    there are so many backup philosophies

    full / differential / partial / log

    when to do which and why ?

    Depends what you're backing up. Son, father, grandfather works well

      i presume you're referring to database systems

      depends on the size of it, the system it resides on and the likelyhood of the data changing between backups.

      smaller ones plus lots of available disk space can get full backups regularly
      average size, full one once a day and lots of differential backups

      large databases, full one once a week, transactional every night and differential frequently
      Coffee's for closers

          360k 5.25" floppy disks - that'll do the trick.
          SA says;
