    Working/staying away from home

How do you more experienced contractors set yourselves up for working/staying away from home during the week?

TravelInn/Lodge / other cheap hotel chains? Or something else?

I tend to set myself up with a good hotel suite. Better than a flat as it is fully serviced and more tax efficient.

I've stayed in Travelodges several times recently. You can get them for £26 per night if you book far enough ahead.

My new contract will be on the fringes of what's commutable, so not sure what I'm going to do. As long as the M25 round West London isn't busy at 8am on weekdays, I'll be fine.
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

I'm with VectraMan for short contracts, Threaded for the longer ones.

Travelodge £26 specials where possible - you need to book more than 7 days in advance. Premier Inn are preferable to Travelodge if I can't get the cheapo rooms. Holiday Inn Express hotels are the best in this price range as they include breakfast (the slightly extra cost is worth it).

You do end up depressed in these types of hotel if the contract is long. I'd look for a B&B in that situation or a hotel suite in a larger city.

Agree with Cojak: B&Bs and Hotel Suites are much better for your head than them travel inn type places.

I always look to rent somewhere. I hate the packing/unpacking each week.

I avoid the packing-unpacking thing by negotiating a long stay.

Or do you wear the same stuff at home as you do to work?

Cheapest possible B&Bs until I can find cheapest possible flat, or preferably a bed in a coal cellar. Cheap is my religion.

Maybe I'll travel down at 4am.

It's also in the countryside, which means staying near work might be a bit "peaceful", and staying somewhere with some life might mean a commute anyway. I think I'll end up trying to stay every other night (except there's five days a week - grrr), not so much travelling but still get to see home regularly. Being away for four or five nights a week must get pretty depressing, no matter how nice a suite you have.
