The expected cost of the 2012 London Olympic park has risen 40% since the games were won in July 2005. The new £3.3bn estimate, which does not include a revised security bill or regeneration costs, is still far below the £8bn some critics say is likely.
"Still far below"? There's plenty of time - at this rate of increase, about 30% a year, we'll be looking at over £10 billion by 2012!
If one considers other recent capital projects like the Scottish parliament, it could be as much as £30 billion!
Unusual for a Labour government to mismanage costs!
I am sure this will come as no surprise to anyone but London council tax payers beware!
So:
They hadn't been planning on paying VAT.
They hadn't planned for inflation in transport costs.
They hadn't planned to write in that it should be done on time, so now they'll pay "delivery partner" CLM an extra £400m for that.
