It is not even US Supreme Court - which incidentally ruled that tomatoes are venetables (which they certainly are), but in the UK tomato for some reason is a fruit.

Listen, son, have you ever been in a restaurant with a nice lady and ordered a desert before heading home?

If so, what did you get - cherries, banana and fruits like that, or a tomato?

Listen son ... You been on the cherry beer again?

A tomtato is a fruit. Might not be a desert kind of fruit, but it's a fruit none the less. If I'm in a restauraunt with a nice lady, my wife will probably be asking some tough questions later in which case the genus to which the tomato belongs will be irrelevent. But it would still be a fruit.

                Authoratative source of definition please?

("I know it is so" doesn't work after age 10).

Scientific definition: "The ripened, fully developed ovary of a flower containing more than 1 seed".
Everyday mnemonic: a tomato is like Liberace, not a vegetable but a fruit.

If an object contains Judge Fred's seed, then it definitely is a fruit.

"The U.S. Supreme Court settled this controversy in 1893, declaring that the tomato is a vegetable, using the popular definition which classifies vegetable by use, that they are generally served with dinner and not dessert. The case is known as Nix v. Hedden (149 U.S. 304)."

                    High enough authority?

Have you ever seen how cucumbers grow? They have plenty of seeds too you know!
