I am now finding jobserve a waste of time. I have not received a single phone call from any of my applications. All my interviews are coming from contacts - both people I have worked with and agents.

Admittedly I have an interesting CV - one that is not easy to pigeon hole. Agents often have issues understanding some contractors can do more than one thing.

I have tried calling up a few agents. Most were unhappy to be called - they wanted a one trick pony. A few said they were pleased to hear from me and I would be put forward - though nothing has come from any of them. Yet.

I tried offered a few £500 in a brown paper bag. Every one of them was mortified so I dropped that. Agents have more scruples than I thought. Not that that is saying much....

Are you serious? You offered £500 cash for anyone who got you a role!?!

Do you know how incredibly dodgy that makes you seem? Its no wonder they are not touching you even with a very long barge pole! Client satisfaction (ie getting repeat roles and business from them) is far more important than your measly £500 in cash! Any half decent recruiter knows that as they can make that money over and over from the client if giving them decent contractors.

You are the type of 1%contractor that gives the other 99% a bad name.

It also smells of desperation from someone who isn't very good and needs sweeteners to get into roles.

I'm not sure if it has quite come through on this, but I'm not a happy bunny.

Go to a mirror and have a long hard look at yourself. Tell that person you are going to get your next role fair and square, not cheating and lying your way to it.

    Rant over.

      Totally agree with everything above.

      Highly irresponsible, dodgy and corrupt.

Everyone knows a bung to agent should be at least £1K these days, anything less is considered an insult

I will do anything to get the deal. Wife, 3 children(2 disabled), and several ex-wives to support.

I got the idea from your accountant anyway!

Agents have no influence other than getting you put in front of the client anyway. Maybe I need to start bribing the interviewers.

My god, its like the wild west with you lot. I think you guys have watched The Wolf of Wall Street too many times... Quick reminder - that was a movie, this is real life.

By the way, I don't mean "drive at exactly 70mph at all times" in the motorway, I understand sometimes we all do things (eg speeding up for overtakes) but you boys are basically suggesting the equivalent of using the roads as a dirt track or treat them as if we were on a German Autobahn. We need to get to somewhere, lets just do it and not care about everybody else.

Plus your excuses for doing this? They do not wash with me, we all have personal responsibilities (whether children / family / mortgage etc) and this does not mean you now have a good excuse for offering bribes. That's a dangerous rabbit hole.

But now I'm sounding more and more like a old boring fart. So, behave children.

But beware, offer people like me a bribe in an interview and I'll have you escorted out of our building by security and charges brought against you.

Jordan Belfort said the movie was not like real life. Real life was far more extreme.

"We need to get to somewhere, lets just do it and not care about everybody else.". So why do you care what I do?

I have done a few interviews in my time. My favourite question "Can you give an instance in which you have bribed the interviewer?"

Seems fine for captains of industry and MPs, for many of them the concept of offering a "drink" is part and parcel of good business, why shouldn't it also be OK for us?
