    Snowflake "Thinking"

Why not fund the welfare state with a 100% inheritance tax?

    Abi Wilkinson

In the UK, official statistics suggest around £77bn is passed on in inheritance each year (tax avoidance means the real amount could be even higher). That’s money that no living being has a moral claim to, according to standard justifications of wealth inequality and private property. Were that money redistributed by the state, it would cover the cost of adult social care several times over. It could plug gaps in NHS, education and police funding. It could provide the kind of comprehensive welfare state that meant nobody had to worry about their family after they passed away – because there would always be a safety net.

    Stupid woman.

Seriously does she want every 60 year old spending their money on random tulip to ensure the government doesn't get it?

Quite agree. Lefties fail to grasp human nature. People want the results of their efforts to go to themselves, family, friends and any others they feel connection or empathy with. If it just taken by the state and spent in a way they have no control over, including many who do not deserve it, who do not make enough effort for themselves, they will just give up trying. Why communist/extreme socialist states are always economic failures.

As somebody who considers themselves a fairly left of centre liberal, I'm struggling to comprehend why leaving your accumulated wealth (if any) to whomever you want is a bad thing. Or is it only bad when rich people do it?

That's because you and I use our commonsense.

If people know if they drop dead it will be given to relations they like, their dog who out lives them or the local cats home, then people will save for their old age and not put so much reliance on the state.

You take that incentive away and the state will be poorer.

If I had £1 for every time socialism has worked I would have £0

Having said that if I lived in a socialist state and had £1 for everytime socialism worked I would still have £0

What is also funny is how these people who spout this rubbish suddenly stfu when they have money.

Indeed. Lefty students get less lefty when they start paying taxes.
