Contract that has only job title is it closer IR35

    Hi all

I am new in the contracting market and I have just received my first contract.

By the way I am an IT Contractor on software engineering specialising in Java and open source technologies.

What I noticed in the contract is that it doesn't mention any details about the assignment that the contract is about. The only thing it mentions is

"Job Title or Services description: Senior Java Developer"

As far as I understand a contract should be specific for a assignment to be completed as part of the contract and it should have an end date.

Having only a job title in a contract is it normal or it can be a problem?

    Thanks a lot in advance

It is up to you to get the contract reviewed and the bits that are missing filled in.

BTW General is for General everyday life stuff not for posting stuff on technology, work, accountancy, legal or business matters

Watching reruns of Dallas recently, I noticed that your signature isn't a correct quote, SE.

It's probably normal (or as normal as many things can be in contracting). In an ideal world, it would be a role description rather than a job title, along the lines of "Java developer for the ABC project to deliver XYZ" but the majority of agents don't know that detail (or care about it) when they are filling in their "job title".

The important things are the rest of the contract - the terms that might influence your IR35 status are one thing, but make sure you understand and are happy with the rest of it as well.

I did have a contract rejected by QDOS because it did not describe the project only a generic .net developer title. That was a few years ago may not be so important now.

Thanks for your answers. I have already sent my contract for IR35 review and waiting.

SueEllen thanks for clearing out General forum. I ll make sure future posts will go to appropriate category.

TheFaQQer What do you mean by

If you posted in the correct part of the forum - probably "business/contracts" - you wouldn't have your thread interrupted by discussions on my signature.

We can have signatures which you only see on the website version of the site.

@TheFaQQer To be fair I was just watching a clip on Youtube and wrote it of that.

                off

It's one of the classic scenes - way above the who shot JR storylines or anything like that. Probably only second to the Jock Ewing "I'm Tapaka!" scene, IMHO.

Could we move to the prof forums and retrospectively ban TF and SE for bantering and taking the thread off topic please?

And prospectively ban you for future pointing out that only PC takes on BAU monkey work.

OP, if this is project based private sector work, agree a statement of work with the client.
