            What kind of MP is going to think that it's normal to be referred to as "Mr (or Mrs) whatsisface"?

            If you can't remember her name then you use the title, it's quite simple.

                    He did but the way he did it was insulting e.g. he pretended not to know that name.

                    Also it is disrespectful to call anyone by the name they don't use whether they are married or not. In the UK you can go by what name you like as long as you aren't doing it for fraudulent purposes.

                    Mother-in-laws often use this as a weapon against their daughter-in-laws who refuse to change their lastnames on marriage. Though in families like that if the son really wants to piss his parents off he can change his lastname as well.
