    Are You Obese?

Where are you on the UK fat scale? - BBC News

According to the BBC your height, weight and age (and optional waist size) can determine where you are on the fat scale.

Some of the beefcakes at my gym will not like this - especially the power-lifter 'beefy with a belly' types.

I'm classed as overweight but train and do weights.

When I was running most days and my weight was much less, I was still classed as overweight. Everyone said I looked unhealthy and one indian guy I worked with at the time asked if i had been ill.

Why is it relevant to mention the person's race?

These things are targeted at the average person... the average person is not a muscle bound behemoth with <10% body fat.

My BMI is 25, im technically on the boundary of being overweight, but then my body fat % is around 12-14 (probably a little higher at the moment as Ive not been to the gym in a while and have become addicted to McDonalds Spicy Signature burgers) so I have no real concerns about it.

Used by an average person BMI is a reasonable indicator of whether or not you need to make changes to your lifestyle.

              Mine's 23

But then I'm a competitive swimmer and gym 3 times a week. I'm 35 and according to that page, my BMI is lower than 69% of men in my age group.

It does make me sad how fat this country has become, and how little the average person seems to care about it.

The way BMI is calculated for South Asians is different to the way in which it is calculated for people with a European background.

The reason for this is that South Asians have been found to be more at risk of the problems of being overweight such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

Yes it's quite sad but good for those of us who do (if you know what I mean)

                  Mine says:

"Your BMI is 24.1 which is in the healthy category." Just hit <11% BF last weekend at 45 after almost a year of heavy lifting, moderate cutting and intermittent fasting since about mid Feb this year.

I'm aiming for about 85 KG (currently around 82.5) and 10% BF after I finish this cut. Oh look it's almost lunch (and breakfast) time!
