Trump threatens to force NHS to pay more for drugs

    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/201...nhs-pay-drugs/

Not really a Brexit issue, more a "special relationship" and "Trump" issue.

I know some rather thick middle aged alcoholics on here kind of support Trump.
    Hard Brexit now!

His threats are starting to become more irrelevant it would seem.

SOFIA (Reuters) - The European Commission will launch on Friday the process of activating a law that bans European companies from complying with U.S. sanctions against Iran and does not recognize any court rulings that enforce American penalties.

“As the European Commission we have the duty to protect European companies. We now need to act and this is why we are launching the process of to activate the ‘blocking statute’ from 1996. We will do that tomorrow morning at 1030,” European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said.

Doesn't our NHS already pay way too much for overpriced US drugs that can be bought far cheaper elsewhere?

No. Drugs are patented for a fixed amount of time after which they become generic. The NHS will buy generic if it can, but the newest and latest drugs can only bought from the source that "discovered" them for a fixed period. Unfortunately quite a lot of these are US firms.
      Hard Brexit now!

What is this special relationship of which you speak? Is there any evidence of it? And the UK can no longer help the US with the EU so is likely to deteriorate.

So because of our negotiating better than smaller private run hospitals then that's unfair. How about forcing the pharma companies to drop the price everywhere. Never like US healthcare.

Yes lets force them out of business. Because the Soviet Union which didn't have for-profit pharmacos produced so many pharma breakthroughs.
