As it’s slow today, my colleague and I have just been talking about how important an invention shatterproof rulers have been. Introduced I believe in the late 70s/early 80s, they were a godsend to every schoolkid prankster who wanted to make funny noises using the ‘twank’ technique and annoy the teacher. How schoolkids successfully twanked before shatterproofs I simply do not know.

I have just taken a trip down memory lane and tried a twank – our Finance permies on the other side of the partition are not amused.

The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”
