Have we done this one ?

Seriously flawed article not mentioning any of the assumptions or criteria used to come to this conclusion. Wouldn't take more than a couple of minutes to find 3 pieces of work that say completely different with a lot more evidence and context.

Oh wait.. Right at the bottom...

Mr Mulheirn said the Oxford Economics study, requested by MAC, was the first measure of the total contribution of the “class of 2016” migrants who arrived in the UK over the entirety of the expected stay.

Why is it flawed? It's a direct result of this:

Too many Brits are poorly educated and therefore cannot pursue the highest paying jobs - as this forum shows.

It's flawed because throws the figures around without any information on the assumptions made or anything else about the report. Look at the other reports and they all start with a ton of assumptions setting out the purpose.

But you are smart enough not to just take the word of a single newspaper article so pointless getting in to it.

It's not the first study to come to that conclusion - they all do.
It's simply because the education level is so poor in the UK.
Basically there are increasingly larger sectors now where the minimum wage is 60K and the minimum educational level is a STEM Masters and the vast majority of the native population cannot apply for these jobs.
          It's a cognitive winner-takes-all scenario.

A migration watch report a few years ago doesn't as doesn't another two done around that time. It varies by country they are from as well which makes sense but is conveniently not mentioned in these types of articles.

How ever you want to spin it allowing a good sized city of main low earning people in a year cannot be good for the country.

No one seems to be talking about the future here either. These people also get old which the NHS seems to not be able to cope with at present.

All that said it looks like I've started down an anti immigration path which I didn't mean to do. It's just a crap article whether I'm for it or against it.

An article about people mentioned in the report: https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...on-photo-essay
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

And, over their lifetimes, they pay in £78,000 more than they take out in public services and benefits - while the average UK citizen’s net lifetime contribution is zero.
So migrants who have been here for a few years pay this extra over their lifetimes? Bit of an extrapolation isn't it?

Maybe that is based on long term EU migrants. It is a reality that those who have the will and fitness to migrate are likely to perform above average for their nation's population which includes the elderly, inform etc. so those from developed nations of the old EU, France, Germany etc., which have economies similar or better than the UK's, are likely to make a great contribution. This is not necessarily true when migrants are from poorer performing, less developed countries, as the drive to migrate will be much stronger and may therefore include less useful people.

Sure, most migrants from the EU and elsewhere will be decent people but one thing that the liberal left constantly fail to grasp is that we should have no obligation to take in any but the well above-average performers who will take our economy in an upward direction. Basic maths - you do not raise an average by adding more of average quality.

PS In the interests of balance, here is a thread from a more righty paper, The Sun. Make your (biased) choice:

MIGRANTS BENEFITS BILL EU migrants in Britain claimed more than £4bn a year in benefits
Migrants from Eastern Europe received more in welfare than the average UK citizen — and paid less income tax, figures show

We can discuss this till the cows come home.

Fact is the demographics don't favour the UK - it's an increasingly ageing population.
                  https://www.ageing.ox.ac.uk/files/Fu...ing_Report.pdf

And even the younger population are amongst the fattest (and therefore most unhealthy) in Europe.

                  ...which costs the NHS hugely:
                  https://www.gov.uk/government/public...environment--2

And are poorly educated as I mentioned before:
                  https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...s-parents.html

It's an interesting question as to who will be doing the work to support these people.
