HNY isn't a proper acronym. It is a TLA, like BBC and USB.

        HNY anyway.

A TLA is still an acronym! The secret is in the name (Three Letter Acronym)

Eh? It stands for Three Letter Abbreviation.

That wouldn't make sense. An abbreviation is a shorter version of a word. An acronym is a word made up of the initials of the letters it stands for.Have a look on:

                    http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/TLA

                    and also

                    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TLA

I am sure there will be other (more authoritative) places, but I can't be bothered to look....
