    Did I read somewhere that you can make a stolen phone unusable by reporting the IMEI number of the phone to someone.....

    I might have dreampt this...

          and on most mobile phones you can display the IMEI by "calling" the number *#06#

            IMEI blocking doesn't completely kill the phone off though. It is possible to change the IMEI to another random number and use the phone again. A gadget used to be available that could change the IMEI in a few seconds at the press of a button. These were made illegal a few years ago but the technology is still out there.
