AtW, some of us still remember your anti-contracting posts and highly pro permie jobs posts. You started fights upon fights telling the contractors here what a blood sucking scum we are, many times you have told us we should do the right thing and get a permie job, be loyal to our employers who are kind enough to pay us our monthly wages, and pay all our taxes as permies do....

What happened next? the minute you receive your British passport you submitted your resignation, voted with your feet, threw away your loyalty to your kind employer and jumped on the contractor wagon.

Nothing wrong with going contracting, it was just the constant lectures we had from you on a daily basis on how contracting is unethical and wrong.

I am personally working for one reason, to earn money, if someone offers me to earn a similar amount of money in a cushy permie job then I'll take it, if I am not happy then I move back into contracting - so please spare us your sarcasms, you were happy to sell your soul for the passport, I suggest that you stop judging us for whatever work decision we make

I am big enough to admit that I was wrong on a number of things I thought about IT contractors, but: I did not sell my soul for passport, I still have not gotten it, merely a right to remain in the UK indefinately, yes that was enough for me to jump the boat, but I did it not because I am disloyal, but because loyalty must be a two way road, so those who abuse that deserve no loyalty at all - only fools and incompetents have blind loyalty.

I am still a permie - only this time I work for my own company full-time and not planning to change that anytime soon: I have no inclination to be contractor like you - effectively being a permie just for more money (less now that Brown Stuff is cracking down on it), for me it was not about money, it was about freedom - and if you are a contractor type who spends most of time on client side, or even if you work from home, but along side some work that client is driving (and why would not they set the work load if they pay for it?) then for me it will most certainly be unacceptable now (unless very short term for good money, like 2 months last year), because my desire is to work on advanced world class stuff, something that most UK companies, sadly, don't engage into.

Anyway, most of my posts at the time were meant to rattle some feathers and wind up you lot, I sure did well since you remember it for so long!

Good things come to those who wait, I've certainly learnt a lot of good things in the last 2 years and I've got a lot of IP that I own now: in most cases for people on here every line of code they write (this excludes Milans/snaws/etc) belongs to the clients: that's the same as being permies

Has AtW sold us out?
