US vs UK Contracting & IT Salary Rates

So who pays more. I've been told that at the lower end of the markets that there are plenty of IT Developers/Workers and that rates are quite low.

At the other end of the spectrum, US Pays higher contracting rates & salaries.

So what is it? Anyone know?

I've seen much of the rest of the world. It is brutal and cruel and dark, Rome is the light.

I wouldn't mind knowing this as the Wife has been asked to manage an office out there for a year (she's permy), what are the rules on contracts for foreigners?

The trouble is the post she’s been offered is in St Louis... nowhere near as glamorous as NY or SF so its not as if I’d even have much fun 'bumming' off her for the year.
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

You need a visa. To get the visa, you need labor certification. That is job-specific, and is held by the employer.

So in practice contracting is out, you need an employer.

(This may be very out of date).

At $2 to a quid you'll be struggling to get better rates in the US than here in most skill sets I was recently looking at Middle East stuff and its all paid in US dollars which meant it was rubbish compared to only a few years ago.

$650 a day plus expenses. Is that good, is that bad? I don't know?

It also appears that no-one on here knows either. Which surprises me!

                    Anyone. Anyone out there?
