    apparently they did:

Sir Igor said the thin black border on the sign did not affect the visibility of the sign and therefore no regulation was breached.

No, but technicalities can't be allowed to get in the way of revenue collection can they?

The fact that 10,000 other people have done the same and are awaiting prosecution just shows that we all need locking up or fining.

      The public are wrong.

The Judge is wrong. If you read the Road Traffic Act it is quite specific on the legalities of enforcing a speed limit. Being visible is not an excuse; the signs have to conform.

Furthermore it is strange who people can get off murder on GBH because of a technicality like the police using the wrong version of form, but when it comes to motorist; the full weight of the law comes down on them.

The way I read it there was no technicality as they were still readable.

No, the judge has made a mistake in law; but what can you expect in the UK nowadays?

Not common sense, just an excuse to fill the coffers with another £1.25 million. Do you really thing the law is going to be upheld when this sort of revenue is at stake ???
