New contractor - invoicing and VAT

I did a few weeks of contracting work for a company. I verbally agreed to a rate with them ie: 25 pounds/hour.

I am now going to invoice them for the work, do I add VAT to the total? ie: 25 * hours worked + VAT

or as I'm not VAT registered, do I leave it out all together?

    Thanks

    Erm, nope

If you're not VAT registered, you can't charge VAT. All you can legally charge is rate x hours. And don't forget to declare it on your self assessment form for the year - can't have people avoiding tax, you know
