    Government Gigs!!!

So I came in this morning to my lovely government gig, and went to sit at my new desk (there was a big office move over the weekend).

Lovely new desk, best seat in the office, right in the corner...but no machine. Neither was my machine at my old desk either. Scouted all round the office, and it's nowhere to be seen!
The guy who arranged the office moves retired last Friday.
My permie boss moved teams on Friday and my IBM boss was let go on Friday.
No one has told me who my new boss is, and I'm not on a team.

So....I'm sat alone, in the corner, with no one to talk to, a machine which will only let me get on t'internet, and a box of Roses (prezzie from my permie boss).

    Government gigs eh?

Come on Sal. You have access to us and chocolate.

    What more would you need?
I am not qualified to give the above advice!

Oh yes, I'm not saying I'm miserable

Its just that I'm getting paid a fortune for being here, and no one seems to care if I do anything or not! Its pretty bad. As a tax payer I'm up in arms

I've been doing that for 2 years (government) ...get used to it!

I get paid by the taxpayer and then do my best to make sure they don't get much back
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

If it's a typical government/IBM project then there's a chance they've let you go on friday too but not told you.

Suggest you knock up some documents from the guy who retired, authorising your own project with unlimited funds. Get some of us 'professionals' in to help you and put your feet up whilst you plan some off-site meetings. Will be as productive/efficient as any other govenment based project being led by IBM, maybe more so.
Feist - 1234. One camera, one take, no editing. Superb. How they did it

Enjoy the easy money S-A, but what about the dualism of this situation: On the one hand as an individual you are earning well and having an easy time through civil service incompetence BUT on the other, this is played over and over across the public sector to the taxpayer's misfortune. Gawd, if ever the civil service were to be truly accountable...
