    I still do some occasional C programming but only on embebbed (PIC) chips which is still specialised enough to be worthwhile.

      Being able to stick ticker tape back together.

      Anyone seen one of those plastic braile thingies you used to align the ends? I never used to use them meself...

        We had a woman at Ferranti who could sort out punch cards with a knitting needle after you dropped a stack on the floor.

        I don't suppose there's much call for that these days.

                never understood quite why people think in an industry like this, that the skills they cut their teeth with entitle them to a living - evolve or die

                (Or set up a business offering niche services to firms using legacy systems)
