School power to search for knives

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/6704563.stm

**** me, when I was at school, every morning when we arrived at the gates we were searched for knives and if we were clean we'd be given one.

More to the point, when exactly did the act of a teacher saying:

"hyperD! Empty your pockets you horrid little man!"

    become outside of the law?
If you think my attitude stinks, you should smell my fingers.

It was never outside the law. The problem was when the child refused. Search powers are (were) limited to the police (and probably a couple of other law/customs enforcement groups).

Interesting. So what we are really saying is that in my time when a teacher said something, we did it, whereas now there's an automatic challenge.

So the new law is designed to blanket over another social degradation.

        Typical new liebour solution…
