    Something good happening today, then.

He'd better not be setting up as an IT Contractor.

        How is this good news?

Gurkha hero 'can come to Britain'
Mr Pun wants better access to health care in the UK
Tul Bahadur Pun, 84, wanted to move from Nepal for medical reasons but had been told he was unable to demonstrate strong enough British ties.

Mr Pun has diabetes, high blood pressure, heart problems and asthma. His eyesight and hearing are poor.
So are we to take all the Worlds health tourists in, or only those that fought on the right side during WW2?
It’s just another burden on our failing national health system, & at 84 he will not make any economic contribution to the UK, but will be a drain on our Social Security resources needing constant housing & nursing... all for free.

Not sure why this case is so high profile unless it's been used as a Trojan Horse for thousands of other cases
How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think

Guy won VC. He's not "all the world's health tourists". Better hope it doesn't come to a BB vote between him and you with my finger on the button.

He's made his contribution (non-economic). What have you done?

Thanks for spoiling a good end to the day.

Think a bit more..& take the emotion out of the argument
He was a paid mercenary who gets a pension (& I think the VC itself carries another pension).
I don't have a problem with setting up a clinic in Nepal to help old Gurkas out, bringing their students over here to train and go back to run hospitals etc.
He has declared himself to be nothing more than a heath tourist... his words not mine

Why exactly do you think he deserves more?

An old man wandering around the Olympic Games looking for a seat was jeered at by the crowd until he reached the seats of the Spartans, whereupon every Spartan younger than him, and some that were older, stood up and offered him their seat. The crowd applauded and the old man turned to them with a sigh, saying “All Greeks know what is right, but only the Spartans do it."
Insanity: repeating the same actions, but expecting different results.

                  Are you for real?

Because if it wasn't for the likes of this guy we would all be speaking fecking German. Who cares if this guy is a health tourist. He has already given plenty to this country (and was prepared to give more) in a way that you and I hopefully would never be asked to. I feel that for every rule there should be exceptions - his case should most definitely be an exception. I'm dead against health tourists who come here to benefit from a system which they have not contributed to. This poor sod has most definitely contributed.

I think it's an absolute disgrace that people who helped the UK out in their time of need cannot expect some help in theirs. I mean, how much in the whole scheme of things would it cost for this guy to get the treatment he needs to see out his last few years.
Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.

                  I preferred version 1!

                    A related question here.

What bad news was this announcement hiding?
Behold the warranty -- the bold print giveth and the fine print taketh away.
