If you could make the same money doing something else...

    Would you?

I'm starting to dislike this lark it doesn't excite me any more, if I could earn the same money making aircraft parts (like I used to) I would, there’s something satisfying about making a physical product then standing back and saying "I made that", I do support work and though fixing peoples problems does have a certain satisfaction it's just not the same.

Do coders/developers get a sense of achievement when they deliver a working project or do they also feel a bit empty? Just interested on peoples thoughts.
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

I make people happy, you can't put a price on that!
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

Well, I've just taken the option of doing the same thing for more money (permie to contractor). But I know what you mean.

I develop stuff primarily for users (who I work quite closely with)...and I do get a sense of achievement when I see the little smiles on their faces when I've made their jobs a bit easier.

Saying that though....if I got the same money, I'd work in a pub. I wouldn't even want to own it, just work in it.

                No satisfaction whatsoever.

                None. Zero.

Oh sorry, a slight sense of satisfaction when the 4 digits appear in my electronic online bank account every week. Lasts about 2mins, max.
