Mountain Bike Question For Shim

Afternoon Shim,

how's it going old chap ?

As I've said previously now that the little house on the prairie is finished it's time to buy a bike.

I wanna get a mountain bike for around 500 quid.

But which one ?

At around 500 quid which make should I go for:

Trek,
Scott,
Specialized,
Mongoose,
Giant,

etc ?

Do I need one with suspension at the back and front or only at the front ?

Disc brakes or normal old fashioned brakes ?
