    Freelancers

    Just noticed this website...

    http://forums.freelanceuk.com/

Is this like the kiddies website, before they graduate up to the big bad boys site here on Contractor UK?

Is there a criteria they need to meet before they can get involved on this site? Like min £300p/day and ability to give someone a royal roasting?

Quickly surfing the various boards, they don't post the kind of tulipe you get on CUK so I think we can conclude that this lot are motivated and happy in their work.

There seem to be quite a few "freelance" website designers on there - methinks I'll try and upgrade ny website for free - so they can add it to their portfolio !

There's quite a few on that forum with the same names that crop up here.

If this is the criteria for this site then I'd better take my leave and join theirs

The clue is in the forum logo:

Freelance UK: 'Media, Creative, Marketing & PR'

Compared to Contractor UK: 'The IT Contractor Portal'

The distinction between 'contractor' and 'freelancer' is an interesting one. Admittedly whenever I have worked in media companies they do refer to non-permies as 'freelancers' (or 'permalancers' for the long term non-permies), whereas I suppose in the IT sector we do use the term 'contractor' (although I prefer 'consultant'). I had never really thought about how concretely these terms were tied to each sector though (Media or IT).
