It's just the news media looking after their own. If he'd been over there to build stuff or dig sewers they'd never have bothered as much. They always try and pretend foreign correspondents are fulfilling a higher mission, and not just over there to do a job and get paid for it like any other civilian.

A while ago there was some talk that he had set this up as he wasnt happy about being pulled out of the area as his contract had come to an end.
