LONDON (Reuters) - Prime minister Gordon Brown could double his Labour Party's parliamentary majority if he called a snap "honeymoon election" in the autumn, an opinion poll showed on Friday.

He celebrated his first month in power with the party's best poll ratings in four years, sparking press speculation that the "Brown bounce" could tempt the cautious Scot into an election when parliament returns after its summer recess.

The Daily Telegraph's YouGov poll of 1,877 voters questioned online on July 23-25 showed 41 percent backed Labour, 32 percent the Conservatives and 16 percent the centrist Liberal Democrats.

This would give Brown a majority of 134 seats if an election were held now, double his present majority, the paper said.

An autumn election on the back of polls after being in for 5 minutes would stink of arrogance IMO and would hopefully backfire. <Whispers> Do it Gordon, get the gun, do it, do it! <whispers>

I reckon Labour will walk it, yet again. People just don't think Cameron is anything special, just a gimmick-ridden marketing type trying to follow every modish trend, and a fanatical Ted Heath-like Europhiliac to boot.

Autumn would be an excellent time for Brown to call an election. And he will win.

He can easily justify it by saying that the people need to have a say in who their new Prime Minister should be. Enough people have moaned about his "coronation", including the opposition, so they cannot complain if he says all right, we'll go to the polls.

Cameron fecked up with grammar schools, trying to be too feckin' egalitarian for his own good, which has had knock-on effects. Whereas Brown is talking about reversing some of Labour's idiocy while it is being blamed on Blair.

It's all talk of course, and some of Labour's idiocy was wholly his, so he'll need to get an election in quick before voters realise, and also before this debt thing explodes in our faces.
