    Flat screen TV - help

My Dad has asked me to look on t'internet for a flat screen telly for him.
I don't know much about this kind of thing (I'm happy with my clapped out old box c.1980).

The first problem is whether to recommend LCD or Plasma? Anyone have any thoughts on this (he is looking for 32-27" with a budget of about £1,000).

    Cheers for any tips!

    Burd.

You can get a 42 inch plasma for less than a grand from one of the better manufacturers. Samsung, Panasonic, Pioneer should serve you well.

Both of these look to be well priced if you want something large (46"+) :

Some aren't keen on Ebuyer, but I've had no probs with them over my few dozen orders.

Rather than wasting money on a bigger TV, simply sit closer to the screen.

I bought my dad a 32" Mirai LCD for less than £350.

Bear in mind, there's no point in getting a plasma/LCD if you don't have a cable or satellite connection -- analog aerials will give you a picture far worse than your existing CRT.

How about one of these... http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-KDL32D3...5889772&sr=1-2

              BTW, You don't need a grand for a 32'er.

Best thing to do is go have a look at some.

Personally I'd go for Plasma, but there are plenty of folks who prefer LCD for valid reasons. I still think the colour and sharpness is better with plasma.

It's worth having a look around trhe Ebuyer site too. They had a nice 42" LG plasma for £700 (delivered) it's probably still on there.

Samsung make some cracking TV's too.

Below 40" LCD above 40" Plasma, it seems that the technology suits the size as LCD's are hard to manufacture above 40" and Plasma is the opposite.

I think Sony, Samsung and Toshiba have ditched their plasma range and are now concentrating on LCD only.

I have this after spending 6 months reading reviews and posts on http://www.avforums.com/ and couldn't be happier with my purchase.
