    Flat tax

Does anyone have any experience of being resident in one of the EU countries that has a flat income tax?

Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania have a flat income tax.

Here is a full list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:F...income_tax.png.

I've seen much of the rest of the world. It is brutal and cruel and dark, Rome is the light.

I know which EU countries have a flat income tax. I asked whether anyone has experience of residing in one of them.

            It isn't. Income is taxed.

                Greece
In times of war the Athenians imposed a tax referred to as eisphora. No one was exempt from the tax which was used to pay for special wartime expenditures. The Greeks are one of the few societies that were able to rescind the tax once the emergency was over. When additional resources were gained by the war effort the resources were used to refund the tax.
Ok, since the war in Iraq is only about oil...and now we own Iraq, when am I getting my refund?

hmm yes. Back in Canada the income tax was not created until during the first world war as a "temporary tax". It has hung around since.

All tax was created "temporary" and was only meant to be levied against the wealthy. Of course this is no longer true - the middle classes are hit the worst and the wealthy pay very little. Would be nice to live in a place like Dubai, where there is very little tax (and no crime to boot).
