Did you see the John Pilger documentary on Sunday about Democracy. Ex CIA chap stating the US doesn't care what system a country has as long as it will give them what they want, hardy a revelation, but an interesting programme

    http://www.johnpilger.com/
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez - he'll have to wait in the queue while we finish sorting out Saddam, Kim Jong Il, Ahmadinajhad and Mugabe.

I saw the program and thought as dictators go Hugo came across as a straight up guy, he stuck 2 fingers up to Bush and therefore deserves sainthood, the way that CNN reports were manipulated was shocking.
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

Unlike GW, however, Hugo doesnt have any problems with restricting what is broadcast by the media, what goes in to newspapers and most certainly doesnt have a problem with making people disappear (even if its just to give them a bloody good talking to ).

And I hope you arent saying GW owns the media in the states or that they pander to his every need?

And as for his "social redistribution"...please point out when and how this has taken place, unless of course what he really means is that the money from oil will be redistributed back to his pockets (so he can eventually retire to some nice French South Pacific holiday resort).

I watched it as well and thoroughly enjoyed it.

This doesn't necessarily mean I am a Socilaist or agreed completely with Pilger, but it makes a change to see alternative views on mainstream TV - even though it was on at the ass end of a Monday night.

Chavez came across as very level headed and is taking exactly the same approach as the US - putting it's own interests first.

Shame there aren't more leaders like him around the world.

Shows you never watched the programme.

There were interviews from the heads of a few of the Venezualan media companies who confirmed there were no restrictions on their reporting.

Try pulling your head out of your own @rse sometime to see what is really going on in the world.

Fair enough - Blair welcomed him over here recently so he must be.

Hmmm... leader who does things that the US hates; the country has oil; US & UK mooting pulling out of Iraq; how long before we "liberate" the good folk of Venezuela, and "oversee" their oil production?

The US already tried in 2002 but the people had none of it.
