    Sky Hd

Who has it and is it any good? Sky want £199 from me for the box and £30 to unhook my Sky + and put in the new one (literally pull the plugs from one box and place into the same sockets on the other - 2 mins work for £30). They used to allow self installation but now don't - I wonder why at that rate!

I have seen boxes on E Bay going for £150 to £190 and I can get a box from a sky installer for £180 tomorrow.

If I go with sky @ £229 then atleast I know that I'm covered if (when) it goes wrong, but I resent the £30 charge for essentailly nothing. If I get the £180 box, then I presume I'll have the manufacturers warranty to fall back on.

    What would you lot do?
Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.

    I preferred version 1!

Your client pays you £30 to have a sh1t, so why are you complaining?

At my rate I'd have numb legs if my poo cost them £30. Although I could consider having 2 per day at the clients cost.

Pass - or at least don't subscribe to sky HD and just get yourself an HD box. Content for HD is sh!t - I just cancelled after a year. Don't get me wrong, HD is fantastic but until there's decent content then I'd pass (If you get an HD box you still get some BBC HD etc).

I think you'll be covered anyway.

I bought a Sky+ box off ebay and DIY'd the install (which is more complicated than plugging it in). I thought Sky might take issue, but I just phoned up and activated it - I assume HD works the same. I've never had to, but I understood Sky wouldn't differentiate if it came to warranty and call outs.
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

No, moving from nothing to Sky+ or sky digital to Sky plus is one thing, going from sky +, what we currently have, to sky HD is a case of simply swapping the boxes. Thanks for the extra info.

I want the HD part for the football mainly. Also, I want to see what this new telly of mine should look like - I will be investing in a PS3 shortly for the DVD player and some half decent home cinema job. Oh and a good alarm for my house.

Same as me mate, not that big a difference (I got a kickass Phillips LCD) to justify the extra cost. I was very disappointed to be honest.

i also want Sky HD but am refusing to pay such a high price. I have seen the ones on ebay going for about £180. The seller said if you have Sky+ it is as simple as unplug one box and replace the leads into the new HD box. You will also need a certain cable for the HD signal to go through which means you will need a HD ready TV. Then once set up you phone up sky and they pair the box off with your account.

We are due to move in the next month so will have to pay for sky to move so i might get the engineer to set up the HD box whilst he is there and give them a couple of quid for a beer as after all they are going to have to plug a box in !!!!

It's unlikely to happen as the govt won't release the frequencies required, if it did then it could become a serious rival to Sky & and as this Govt seems to be in bed with Murdoch I cannot see them allowing it.

There was also a campaign on AV Forums supporting it some time ago... came to nothing
