Government has scrapped duty on homebrew biodiesel

    http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/briefs/excise-duty/brief4307.htm

You can now stick cooking oil/biodiesel/chip fat/whatever in your car and you don't need to pay the 28p duty and submit records to the HMRC.

So if you are a tight wad, you can buy an old diesel banger and stick cooking oil in it. It also means your money ain't going to the government or Middle East oil producers.

More reason to run an old diesel Merc banger and fill it with Rapeseed oil at 50p a litre then.

        that is correct,

        amazing ruling, wonder why ?

buy a 10 year old Merc diesel, or Volvo and as described above run it on cooking oil

        one for the people

give it a few years and the UK will look like Argentina !!!

trouble is you need to blend the veggie oil with diesel...also problems with viscosity when cold... much more productive if you quit faffing around & just use red diesel

which there are hefty fines for. Another stealth tax?
Behold the warranty -- the bold print giveth and the fine print taketh away.

I think the biggest thing is your car is confiscated... possibly worth a gamble if your car is 10+ years old... feck where did all these criminal thoughts come from?

But will your chip fryer special pass the emissions tests in its M.O.T?

                    aye aye boyo,

it's not so much about 4x4 or 4x2

it's about how the engines and in particular diesel pumps deal with the differences in viscosity between bio diesel and normal diesel

it is well known the old diesel mercs will burn almost anything - yes that's an exageration but you know what I mean
