Boomed (in the short/med term at least)

    Some facts:

    US has slashed interest rates.
UK inflation is falling and is well below the government target. (I know)
    Financial markets are in turmoil

    The result:

UK interest rates will be cut to around 5% to ape the US and boost the UK financial services industry.
UK property prices will once again go stellar, as mortgage costs tumble on cheap credit again.

I don't think we'll see 5% this year, but it should head in the right direction.

CPI @ 1.8% is quite remarkable, despite oil at $80 a barrel and wheat going through the roof they have the perfect excuse to cut rates now, if they wait till the New Year even the fudged CPI figures cannot be kept under 2%.

We really need sweatshop labour in Asia to keep being beaten with sticks and not ask for more than 2p a day. If this counter-inflationary pressure is lost and they want proper money, then it will be the 1970s all over again.

Anyway, at least ML Gold and General has come good at last.

I thought I'd missed the boat to offload the last of my shares before today's opportunity, so well done treasury boys also ! Just need a house sale to go through smoothly and I'm relaxing in my armchair with my feet up. I have a feeling they could keep things going for a while yet but with the US going down the pan there is ultimately no chance for Gordon's miracle economy.
