    Family Benefits

Report on the WS this morning - interviewing an EC lawyer - who explained the madness around family benefits:

If a man, is working in the UK, and his wife and children are still in Poland, he is entitled to claim benefits in Poland AND the EC required Britain to 'top-up' the Polish benefit until it was at the level he would receive if wife and family were in Britain. (The problem is Britain isn't in a position to cope with the number of applications and cannot seem to tell if the family is here or not, hence many are getting full benefits from both countries)

Hurrah! Now the UK can provide it's welfare state to the lowest common denominator in Europe.

Lech Walesa said the European Union was worse than communism, he wasn't joking.

    Where does it end?

Was this the same story I heard on the radio at the weekend?

A woman in Poland can apparently no longer claim child benefit for her son because her ex husband is claiming full child benefit over here for him and keeping it

Did he? Old Lech knew a thing or two about bolshy unions.
