    Time to rewrite History

    ...
Parts of British history need to be rewritten to emphasise the roles played by other races and religions like Muslims, a prominent race relations campaigner has said.

Trevor Philips, the chairman of the new Commission for Equalities and Human Rights, said the history of Britain did not properly reflect the contribution of other cultures.

Rewriting the country’s history would demonstrate to Britons in the 21st century how other groups apart from Anglo Saxons shaped the nation.
He told a fringe meeting at the Labour conference: "We may need to revisit our national story – we want to rewrite that story to tell the whole story."
The rewriting should start with the story of how the English fleet led by Sir Francis Drake fought off the Spanish Armada in 1588, he said.

The important role played by the Muslim Turks, who delayed the sailing of the Spanish fleet so that the English ships were better prepared, had been airbrushed out of the story however.

Mr Phillips said: "When we talk about the Armada, it was the Turks who saved us because they held up the Armada after a request from Elizabeth I.
How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think

That's a bit like saying if the Yanks didn't step in towards the end of the war Great Britain would have lost..and er..oh hang on a moment...
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

The Yanks only stepped in when it looked like we were winning.

Oh, you mean when the Nazis had virtually all of Europe, marching on Leningrad and Perl Harbour triggered the war on the Pacific. Meanwhile Britain had already lost Hong Kong and Singapore (On BICYCLE by the Japanese!).

            PURLEASE!

Britain could not have 'won' had it not been for US planes and commodities gratis.

The rewriting happened when Britain decided it 'won' the war!

It would have been so different if the Yanks hadn't captured that Enigma machine - I saw it in a film, so it must be the way it happened.

er... so the ENGLISH asked for (paid for, most likely) a bit of foreign help? And that makes the hired help the heroes of the hour? No. WE did the thinking; they did a bit of graft. FFS, Oh Dear (TM), etc., etc... zzzzzzzzzzzz

The US president had wanted to assist from the word go, but knew he'd never get the US on-side. Had to wait for something close to home to happen, i.e. Pearl Harbor. Then it was impossible to say no to assisting us.

Recently saw an interesting documentary about British homeland defences in the war. The Krauts would, possibly, not have been able to invade for a long, long time (if ever), owing to our rather excellent defences both on the coast, and inland, as well as the US being willing to supply the UK with its own V2-like technology. They might, of course, eventually managed it, but the current theory is that Hitler may well have tried for a truce with us, keeping Europe for himself. Who knows?

That was my understanding - that he was trying to make a deal.

I don't think they could have taken the UK - too tricky to assault. The allies only managed D-Day due to having the US et al with it, and the German forces fighting the ruskies...
