    State vs Independent Schools

Nicky G kicked off with - the higher up you go, the more corrupt you become - and that led to a few interesting comments re. Privately educated people and how they behave in the workplace.

Apparently we're more likely to be Machiavellian, political schemers - I would disagree. At my client's site - it's the state-educated who engage in gameplay more than the 'toffs'.

What's your background and experiences of this IMHO increasingly redundant 'class division'?

    Poll to follow...
    45

    51.11%
    23

I went to a convent.... I suppose it was a state school although you had to sit entrance exams and pay for stuff...

I'd class Grammar schools as independent where they can set their own standards and exceed the National Curriculum - not beset by the tos and fros of govt. meddling.

I went to a grammar, followed by an independent.

I went to a comprehensive. Played rugby for the school team and one of the schools we played against was the borstal for the city. 2 of the guys in the borstal team went on to play Rugby League for Great Britain!!!

I'd also add into the mix a difference between boarders and day-pupils...

When I got to uni it was obvious who the ex-boarders were - they just quietly got on with living in the hall of residence, had no problems being away from home and settled right in - I remember some ppl crying because they were away from home, ppl with absolutely no idea how to cook or look after themselves - including independently educated day-pupils.

I'd argue that boarding school is good preparation for university.

I went to an independent school and was a boarder and would agree with that.
