Hi Lucy - where are you staying in Beijing? I stayed in Beijing Hotel opposite the shopping Plaza (the one which has that amazing food hall in the basement) and it was walking distance from the forbidden city and Tiananmen square... if you like Beijing duck you really really really should visit Quan Jude restaurant, its world famous for its Beijing duck, its 5 story restaurant and always packed, so make sure you have a booking or go on times which are not so popular (Chinese rush hour for lunch is around 11:30 am, and around 5 or 5:30 for dinner - they have their meals early)
Also a visit to the Perl Market is an absolute must.... I got loads of stuff from there, it would be sooo much better if you can get a local to take you there and bargain with you.
Have fun - wish I was there now.Comment
