Good God. The first time I read about this I was shocked and horrified and the passage of time hasn't reduced its' impact. That's downright horrific.

She was in a dreamlike state when she strangled the woman (but not to death) before cutting the baby out.

A more appropriate punishment may be hysterectomy (sans anaesthesia, natch) followed by life without parole?

But she was ill - in this country she'd probably be on a supervision order.
