GP's see average salaries rise 10% to £110K

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/7070655.stm

Average family doctor pay in the UK has risen by 10% to £110,000 in the last year, figures show.

The deal also allowed GPs to opt out of weekend and evening care, which critics say has suffered after private firms and groups of medics were taken on.

No wonder the NHS is struggling to balance the books. Some GP's are pulling in £250K pa and they don't work out of hours. Nice fat pensions too. Good to see tax being spent on the NHS wisely, while hospitals close wards.

As professionals I would deem doctors more important than Accountants, Lawyers, Bankers, TV presenters, Football players and the like, who often earn well in excess of £100k. Yet doctors have to go through some 10 years of studying to specialise. And they're not thick like some "professionals" or "celebrities" who earn a lot more than them just because popular culture has a f***ed up way of thinking. You have to be pretty damn smart to become a doctor, after all, peoples' lives are in your hands.

The government has wasted so much money on other parts of the NHS (yes, IT and management consultants, 'performance' managers etc), but when it somes to doctors they deserve the money so long as they do the work to earn it. They are life savers and we all need them at some point.

Not in General practice you don't, if you have an IQ over 125 you could easily do it. These days they even use computer software to help them diagnose patients. Not that they don't deserve to be paid well for looking at old peoples bunions
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

If I was tasked to design a perfect society, I would make sure doctors would be amongst the most rewarded.

Doctors are over-rated for diagnostic purposes. Evidence-based medicine is the way forward.

You play a dangerous game when you start trying to analyse people's financial worth with regards to what they do.

Doctors are given a fantastic education and a cast iron career path with pensions and job securities thrown in. They can now work when they choose, retire when they want and if their child happens to disappear they can take as much time off work as they like to try and recover it.

I know a lot of GPs. Most of them play golf a lot they live in nice houses in nice parts of the country. They are never challenged or questioned, and really they dont care about their patients as much as you think. Hospital doctors are different.
