    Bloke sacked gets £550,000 compensation

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7074251.stm

A sacked London park worker has been awarded record compensation of £550,000 because he was the victim of disability discrimination.
The man, who suffers learning difficulties, was unfairly sacked from his job by Lambeth Serviceteam, an employment tribunal in Croydon found.

Seems rather a lot for a bloke losing his job as a park worker? Compare that to the compensation someone gets for losing a hand, leg or being wheelchair bound due to war or an accident.

    Its excessive.

Why the heck do judges feel the need to give out these large sums to people. Yeah the dude lost his job. He's not a rocket scientist lets face it.

£550,000 for losing his job. Hell they should have just called the police they'd have shot him for a cool £175,000.

      Genius.

I agree it is ridiculous, the comparisons of compensation for something relatively trivial to someone dying or loosing limbs because of lack of body armour etc...
It's about time I changed this sig...

To teach public service employers to stop wasting loads of taxpayers money fighting cases they can't win and to settle out of court. I know the Met Police and a few Hospital Trusts waste loads of money on these sorts of cases as well.

It must be good being a law firm for these idiots as you get a continual income stream.

Why waste on those legal parasites. They could waste it on us contractors

The fine would have been greater if the poor guy was english.

The park worker probably wasnt trying to bring death and destruction to the taleban...which in todays "tratorious" society means he should get more.

Although, seeing as that geezer is supposedly one of the most badly hurt to survive the Afghan conflict I wonder what it would have taken to get the whole amount awardable, instead of half the amount he got?
