    Data protection

How many "items" of data do you need to give a call centre to prove it's actually you? Just been speaking to the house insurance people and they wanted to know about 4 or 5! I even gave them my inside leg mneasurement for the hell of it!!

The all put it down to the DPA!

I called my credit card company, they asked my mobile phone number
I have 5 sim cards which one? I asked if my DOB would do, no too easy to find out these days.
    Fiscal nomad it's legal.

I've had lots of fun over the years with companies and the Data Protection Act.

All they really have to do is take steps to confirm it's you so they normally ask you your address and DOB plus some random thing about your account or contract with them. For example Next Directory ask you items that you have brought from them. If some fraudster knows this about you and steals your identity as long as the company takes reasonable steps then they are in the clear.
