Question for the experts: Putting the RJ45 ends on Cat5 cable

    morning all,

    situation:

Network Switch -> lots of Cat5 cables which currently have no ends

-> Wall sockets with Cat5 currently not inserted

Putting the RJ45 ends on the Cat5 cable...

one end of the Cat5 will have an RJ45, what order to put the 8 cables, colour order sequence ?

the other end of the Cat5 comes out of the wall and runs into a wall socket, when pushing the cat5 into the wall socket, what order/sequence to push the 8 cables in ?

    Thanks,

    Milan.

Tch, what happens if the cable has all white wires, or you're down a manhole with a torch?

FFS Milan, can't you just get someone in to do the job properly?

Time costs money remember? Even at €9 ph.

This site is a little clearer http://www.tomax7.com/aplus/APlusCD/cat5.htm most sockets will have a colour coded legend.

Get one of those comedy tools instead of using the back of a spoon or something. Money well spent.

And depending on the number of cables, get a proper tester too. You can always flog it again on eBay.

                    thanks all for the links

a proper tester, hmm I have 18 cables - 2 to each room and my tester is a pc at one end and the switch at the other and a lot of running arounf

prc1964, yep could have paid someone, but I wanted to do it myself, finishing the network

same as completing all the satellite connections

just interested in how it all works and have plenty of time to get it running

current interim solution is a 15m fly lead
