    Rising speed penalties pondered

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7086290.stm

FFS, we already have the safest roads in Europe don't we? When will they stop tinkering and leave us to get on with our feckin lives??
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

This is where i think immigration is a good thing, I always put the details of an immigrant on the who was driving bit, after all immigration is good for everyone, I must be entitled my bit of good?
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

3500 people die every year on roads, that's 7-7 every week.

Just enforce the speed limits in dangerous places better.

If a child is injured when hit at 30 mph it is likely that the car was doing at least 40 when it saw the danger.

The car is a symbol of freedom and independence which is why they hate it so much. They would far rather see people herded onto buses and trains

You think investigators don't know that? If you hit a child at 30 mph in 30 mph, then the coclusion will be either you were speeding or you did not look at the road to brake in time, either way you are screwed even if it all was fault of a child.

The safest thing to do is run the child over at 20mph according to the adverts. Personally I think it's safer not to run them over at all.

They should, so why do they insist on trying to reduce speeds to 20 mph?

This will not stop the true culprits who are the ones that drive like idiots no matter what the speed limits are.

I find 20 mph is very hard to obey, but I think maybe in front of schools speed limits should be 25 mph during school time, say presence of lolly pop people on the road should automatically lead to reduction in speed to 25 mph. The difference may seem small but in actuality it makes big difference in terms of survival on impact.

Motorways on the other hand should be rated 80 mph when weather is good, but when it is seriously raining people should not be driving more than 60 mph, or maybe even 50 mph.

Sure I agree that the real bastards - young people in F-reg Fiesta are really taking the piss (on insurance, no mot, dangerous driving) and police should crack down on them every time they see such car.

If you want to have fun driving, book a track day every month. Superb, scary, thrilling entertainment you'd never have on any UK road.

Yes, but there you'd have to compete with pretty good drivers and pretty good cars, people like DodgyAgent love speed past law abiding citizens who stick to the speed limit, and DodgyAgents of this world think that by overtaking those people they are somehow good drivers. Pathetic really!
