    Nat West

I received an email this morning informing me of a change of procedure to their online banking service.

They provided a link, which I clicked on, which took me to a page that had a Nat West header, then loads of fields in which I had to put my name, address, log in details, passwords, etc etc.

It looked REALLY REALLY authentic...maybe apart from the things you normally get on a head, like a link to home, contact us, etc.

The thing that initially tipped me off that it was a scam was that I'm NOT actually a member of Nat West. But if I was, and I wasn't so IT literate, I would have definately fallen for this one. Like I say - it had the nat West header at the top of the page!!

I really worry for some people out there - completely open for abuse because of the internet (and their nievity/stupidity).

How much exactly did you lose?
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

        naivety

Surely people in this day and age know not to use links to bank websites sent in emails?

Forward it (including headers) to [email protected] (don't expect anything other than an autoreply) and never open another suspect email again (Trust me - after you opened this, you'll get a lot more - if they have tracking in place), oh - and scan your PC for viruses now.

Well yeah I guess they do. But when you see the website looking all official and stuff....I just thought it was very authentic. I wouldn't call anyone stupid for falling for this...well, a non IT person anyway.

It's really worrying - I can imagine my dad falling for this, or someone like him

Yes, well done, now they know their spambot has hit a human from that 'special' URL in the email.

I had one from Halifax, the English was so bad it could have been from a recent school leaver.

Thanking you for your considerable cooperations in these matters

They are always in terrible English, so unless you are thick or dyslexic you won't be stung.

Yes - I've already got his bank details, thanks

I keep getting ones telling me that the Internal Revenue Service want to give me a refund on my overpaid tax.

I'm at work - I woudln't have opened it at home man!! I'm not daft!!

yeah - I sent it there straight away.

I get about 50 spam emails a day - seriously, I've tried everything to get rid of them. I just accept them now - penis enlargements, viagra, loose 50 stone in 3 days, 1p shares, "hi I'm lonely and would love to meet you", etc etc etc etc.
Never had a genuine bank details one though!
